Lighting & Reticulation

The systems underneath. Irrigation, drainage and lighting, done once, done right.

Low-voltage uplighting washing a dark boundary fence and picking out shrubs and a feature tree at dusk in Mullaloo, Perth

What it involves

These go in before the surfaces. Conduit, sleeving and irrigation mains are laid while the ground is still open, because retrofitting them means cutting up finished paving and lawn to get at them.

Irrigation on sand has to be zoned rather than run as one blanket system. Lawn, garden beds and pots want different volumes at different frequencies, and a single zone trying to serve all three will overwater one and starve another.

Lighting is a question of restraint. Path, step and feature lighting placed so that what you notice is the garden rather than the fittings, and enough of it to make the space usable after dark, without turning it into a car park.

Exceptional quality and truly professional service. The work was top-notch and exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend these guys — outstanding results at a very reasonable price.

Commonquestions.

What people ask about the systems under the garden.

Can this be added after the garden is finished?

It can, but it means cutting into finished paving and lawn to run conduit and pipe, then patching. It is always cheaper and neater to lay it while the ground is open, even if the lighting itself is installed later.

How many irrigation zones do we need?

Enough to separate things that want different watering, lawn, garden beds, pots and any newly planted areas. One blanket zone will always overwater something and starve something else. The number follows the planting plan.

Is garden lighting expensive to run?

Low-voltage LED lighting draws very little. The cost sits in the install, cabling, transformers and fittings, rather than in running it, and it is far lower if the cabling goes in before the surfaces.

What happens if something fails later?

You get a plan of what runs where at handover, so a fault is traced rather than hunted. Most irrigation issues are solenoids or controllers and are a quick fix when the layout is documented.
