What it involves
A transformation means the whole property is reconsidered at once rather than improved in pieces. Levels, drainage, hard surfaces, planting and lighting are drawn as one scheme, so a decision made early doesn't quietly rule out something better later on.
Most of the value ends up invisible. Falls, drainage runs, retaining, base preparation and soil are all settled before a single paver goes down. Gardens that disappoint have almost always failed at that stage rather than at the planting.
The order is what protects the result: demolition and earthworks, then levels and retaining, then drainage and services, then hard surfaces, then soil, then planting. Skipping ahead is what forces expensive rework.

What people ask before committing to a full transformation.
Do we have to do the whole garden at once?
No, but it should all be designed at once. We can build in stages against a single plan so that the work you do now doesn’t block or have to be undone by the work you do in two years.
Can we keep what’s already there?
Usually more than people expect. Mature trees, established hedging and sound structure are worth keeping and designing around. What normally needs rebuilding is what sits underneath, levels, drainage and soil.
How disruptive is it?
There will be machinery, deliveries and noise during earthworks, and the garden will be unusable for a period. We stage the work, keep the site contained and tidy the verge, but a full transformation is a construction job and it is better to plan around that than be surprised by it.
What happens if we change our minds partway?
Small changes are normal and we allow for them. Structural changes after levels, retaining or drainage are in the ground are expensive, which is exactly why those decisions get made carefully at design stage rather than on site.
